Usually the big name attraction of All Tomorrow’s Parties is the band curating the festival. In 2008, it was My Bloody Valentine. In 2009, the Flaming Lips. In 2011, Portishead and Jeff Mangum. (2010 was a slight exception, with Jim Jarmusch choosing the acts, but considering he’s working on a documentary about the Stooges, who tore through all of Raw Power, he’s basically a part of the band.)
This year, though, the talk of Asbury Park, New Jersey from September 21-23 will be split between the curator and a comedy act. Recently reunited soul-rockers Afghan Whigs are the self-loathing musical headliners (with the festival itself being curated by frontman Greg Dulli), while stand-up comedian Louis C.K. is the self-loathing big-ticket seller. Can they perform Louis’s happy song together, please?
Also on the bill of particular note: the Roots (?uestlove will also DJ), L Magazine cover girl Sharon Van Etten, José González, Mark Lanegan Band, the Antlers, the Dirtbombs (performing all of Ultraglide In Black), the Magic Band, and Thee Oh Sees. Full lineup below, with more names TBA. Pre-sale tickets are available now.
