Given Romney’s previous statements on slashing FEMA and arts funding, he’s a terrible option for anyone who’s been affected by hurricanes or NEA cuts— which rules out pretty much everyone in the New York art world right now, except for the super-rich. Most of the whispering Romney support this year is coming from Forbes-level art dealers like William Acquavella and Larry Gagosian. Duh.
Or at least, if pro-Romney artists are out there, they’re shy. This pro-Romney list took me all morning to scrape together, and it makes the “Hope” poster look cutting-edge.
John Currin and Rachel Feinstein are both, famously, Republican. We dunno if they’re voting Romney, but that’s a pretty good bet.

Richard Whitney hasn’t come out and said it, but he’s the official portraitist
That crazy right-wing guy John McNaughton
The other crazy right-wing guy David Bugnon
AFC commenter Franklin Einspruch
Richard Phillips (who painted Romney’s portrait, but ironically)
Chuck Close (who painted Obama’s for an Obama fundraiser)
Mark di Suvero
Ron English (as of last election)
Robert Indiana (as of last election)
And if it counts, Lena Dunham
And here’s a slideshow of the art they’ve made.
