So about this mysterious something scheduled for September 9 (at 9pm, natch) that indie nobodies Arcade Fire have been coyly promoting? In an exclusive interview with The Daily Beast, Dutch director-photographer-go-to-creative-mind Anton Corbijn let the cat out of the bag: “I’m working on a really great at the moment: Arcade Fire’s new single. The song is called ‘Reflektor,’ and you’ll be able to see it Monday evening.” The Gregorian calendar says that this coming Monday is September 9, so now the world makes sense. “I can’t say much more than that because it’s all a surprise,” he continued. “You’ll have to watch the TV Monday evening.”
The TV? Or the computer? DID YOU MEAN TO SAY “TV,” ANTON, OR WAS THAT A SLIP OF THE TONUGE ON ACCOUNT OF YOU BEING NEARLY 60, ARTSY AND HAVING YOUR MIND CLOUDED BY BEAUTIFUL THOUGHTS?! BECAUSE IF YOU MEANT “TV,” THAT ADDS A WHOLE OTHER ELEMENT TO HOW WE SHOULD BE GOING ABOUT THIS, COME MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9. And so the mystery continues.
To summarize, at least we can add these bullet points to the roundup of confirmed info about the band’s fourth LP:
- Its lead single is also the title track (“Reflektor,” if you’re just joining us).
- Its first video will be directed by the guy responsible for Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” and Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” videos. So it will definitely be cute!
