The MTA Is Finally Adding More Night and Weekend L Trains

Some welcome news from over the weekend: the MTA announced that, in response to crushing demand, they’ll be adding more trains to the L’s off-peak night and weekend schedule.

“It’s amazing,” an MTA spokesperson said of the Bedford stop, which sees about 3 million more riders annually than it did just five years ago. “At Bedford and Lorimer, we’re seeing ridership to the tune of 103 percent of what it is during the weekdays, so on weekends, you’re actually seeing more ridership than you do during the week.”

Meaning, the MTA has figured out what a lot of us already knew, which is that people come to Williamsburg to party much more than they do to work, and waiting 28 minutes for a train at 2am is a nightmare. But, regardless, this is a step in the right direction, it’s nice they’re trying to address the problem, maybe we’ll all save a little money on weekend cabs, etc.
