Nine Essential Everly Brothers Songs

In case you missed it, Phil Everly—one half of the beloved Everly Brothers—passed away on Friday, leaving behind his older brother and musical partner Don as well as an onslaught of tributes from musicians who were inspired by the duo’s harmonies, including Paul Simon. Their work also inspired much of the vocal work for just about every major British Invasion band, and The Beatles specifically lifted some of their techniques for “Please Please Me.”

They’re mostly known for their bigger early hits like “Bye Bye Love,” “Wake Up Little Susie,” and “All I Have To Do Is Dream” (one of the best songs every recorded by any musician in any genre, for my money), but kept performing and writing for decades, and have a wonderful, varied catalogue to show for it. On a wistful, rainy Monday morning, no time like the present to re-visit some of their best work.
