They haven’t put out an album together since 2011’s Share the Joy, and earlier this afternoon the Vivian Girls made it official, announcing the band’s breakup on their Facebook page. From their statement:
“Brooklyn, New York, March 2007: we started making music together and became what we know as Vivian Girls. It’s been a long and crazy journey in the seven years since, and we feel as though the time has finally come to let our band rest in peace. It’s been an experience that we’ll look back on and cherish and we’d like to thank you for sharing it with us. We have had such an amazing time being a band, touring the world, releasing records and meeting all of you.”
Not hugely surprising given how busy they’ve been with other side projects (Katy Goodman with La Sera, and Cassie Ramone with The Babies and a solo project), but a bummer nonetheless. They’ve got two shows planned as a send-off, one in L.A., and one at Death By Audio on March 1st. We’re excited to see what all three ladies do in their next projects, but sad to see ’em go nonetheless.
