Justine Benith
Discovery Girls
“When I first started taking black-and-white photographs, I sought to make inanimate dolls look active and alive. I soon realized that by using dolls I was avoiding human interaction, so I decided to photograph real people, specifically girls. With these photographs, I’m showing the girls’ — and my own — inherent curiosity and desire for stimulation. They reflect my intimate involvement and exploration of the subtle and simple aspects of life.”

Justine Benith lives in Brooklyn and works at the Whitney Museum of Art.
