There aren't a lot of New York 4th of July traditions more beloved than the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, made all the more special this year as a marker of the Coney Island cornerstone's comeback from the staggering damage inflicted by Hurricane Sandy. We trust that even if you didn't actually enter yesterday's contest, you spent a lot of time eating hot dogs in solidarity.
We also trust that this hasn't fully sated your 4th of July weekend appetite for this, the most patriotic of summer foods. And while our love for Nathan's is undying, there are too many tasty, toppings-smothered versions of this American classic for us to ever pledge allegiance (sorry) to just one. In the interest of making the most of one of our nation's more openly gluttonous weekends of the year, we've picked out a few we think you should be eating this weekend. Is there any better way to honor our forefathers?
