If only to prove that she's not the character she plays on Girls
, Lena Dunham
bought an apartment in not-trendy Brooklyn Heights for half a million dollars earlier this year, Gothamist reports
. The 800-square foot one-bedroom is on the top floor of Mansion House, on Hicks Street near the Clark Street subway station, a "well established full service co-op with a staff of doormen, porters, a handyman and a live-in super," according to
one real estate company. Serendipitously, "Mansion House was built in the 1930s," Brownstoner once reported
, "on the site of a former Brooklyn Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies."
The building caused some controversy in 2007 when it considered chopping down an Elm tree on its grounds rather than spend eight thousand dollars dealing with its roots, which were tangled with electrical pipes. The tree was felled four years later by Rainstorm Irene—or so the official story goes!
