Even for most adults, there's a lot to be said for doing some back-to-school shopping once September rolls around. Everyone likes a new sweater, and all that. But you know what there's also a lot to be said for? Buying stuff at a huge markdown at the end of a season.
Hence, the beauty of end-of-summer sales, which are usually at their best over Labor Day Weekend. And, lucky for us, a lot of our favorite Brooklyn shops are no exception. Here are five good places where you can find something beautiful for far less money than you'd normally spend (and maybe pick up a few extra things along the way). Welcome solace for those of us who didn't make any travel plans for the weekend, and thus, can justify blowing a little extra money? Sure.
Normally Nifty Thrifty's massive, crazy collection of vintage from every possible decade is strictly an online-only affair. This weekend, though, they're opening up their Williamsburg headquarters for a major warehouse sale, with items up to 80% off. They'll be open for business between 2pm and 9pm today and from 11am to 7pm both Saturday and Sunday. Expect to do a lot of digging, and expect it to be well worth it.

Their end of summer sale has been going on for a couple weeks now, but we suspect that even at its tail end, this place will be as packed with reliably beautiful, well-made pieces as usual. Sales items are marked down between 50% and 80% off.

Alright, so it's not exactly a small boutique that the rest of your friends don't know about (or own any recognizable pieces from), but Brooklyn Industries is a staple for a reason. And their Labor Day sale, which is happening both online and in stores through Monday and sees the whole store at a buy one, get the next item 50% off discount, seems like a pretty ideal time to stock up.

In a surprisingly crowded field of excellent Greenpoint shops, Dalaga has rightly earned its place as one of the very best. And this weekend (through Monday), if you buy more than two items (in-store and online), you'll get 10% off the total. If that leads anyone to justify buying a lot more than they originally intended, well, there are worse things.

Online Only: In God We Trust
While we love In God We Trust's brick and mortar stores more than just about anything else in the borough, we're also into the idea of getting some of their best pieces at a huge markdown (and not having to leave the house to do so). Meaning, their webstore-only summer sample sale is a very
welcome thing. Hurry, though: today (Friday) is the last day to get the discount, as the sale started at the beginning of the week. You weren't really gonna do that much actual work today anyway, were you?
