MTA Brings Back Nostalgia Trains, Teams with Google to Bring Wi-Fi Underground

In a bit of news from the underground, the MTA is going old-school and high-tech at the same time. Nostalgia trains are making their annual summer appearance starting next month. On July 1st from 10am to 5pm, $50 will get you a ride aboard a sea-foam green Lo-V car down to the Brooklyn Museum or Botanic Garden. For that much money, you may want to consider staying on for the whole day. The R 1/9 cars will take passengers down to Coney Island on July 29th, and on August 12th vintage buses and trains will head to Jamaica Bay, Rockaway Park, and the Gateway National Park.

But the MTA is doing more than just nodding to the past: Six Chelsea subway stations are now offering free WiFi until September 7th, thanks to a partnership between Google and Transit Wireless. By the end of 2012, 30 additional Manhattan stations will have T-Mobile and AT&T service so you can send even more iMessages or Tweets about the rat that just crawled onto the platform. Sorry Verizon users, no one can hear you now.
