It would seem those tricksters over at The New York Times were onto something.
According to The Brooklyn Paper, the wildly successful crowd funding site has plans to spruce up the landmarked Eberhard Faber Pencil Company factory on Kent Street for an estimated price tag of $7.5 million.
"Kickstarter is moving to Greenpoint for the same reason so many start-up companies are springing up here: it's unique, it allows for innovation, and has space for companies to grow," said neighborhood advocate Andy Smith. "With a high-profile company like Kickstarter coming here, it's a real catalyst for Greenpoint's growth."
Some speculate that Greenpoint is seeing a boom as a home for tech companies now that DUMBO's getting overcrowded (and overpriced) but we say whatever the reason, welcome guys! Maybe once you're settled in we can have a friendly softball game! Or a drinking contest, either way.
