"I've been looking for my lost chihuahua for a month now, and after the hurricane I noticed many of the systems in place to reunite lost dogs with their owners were failing due to power outages. At the same time, many rescues that help Animal Care and Control by pulling their most urgent dogs were really effected by Hurricane Sandy," Maveal said in an email.
She went on, "Then I saw the great work Adopt NY was doing to support 44 animal rescue groups that were working hard to rebuild, pull urgent pets from Animal Care and Control, and find safe havens for lost and abandoned pets. I knew I need to help them, and working to provide resources for these rescues helps me feel like in some way, I'm helping those that would help Myrtle, if they found her."
Currently, Adopt NY is working to provide a series of rescue organizations with foster homes for pets along with supplies, and have already raised $3,000 along with signing up 400 new applications for foster owners.
This Wednesday, November 7 at the back room of Bar Matchless, David Crabb will host performances from comedians including Rory Scovel, Adam Newman, Cami Climaco, and Ben Kronberg, along with music from the Reformed Whores and Noah Stitelman of Neighbors. Tickets can be purchased here, and will directly benefit Adopt NY's Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
Go to a bar we all love, hear some jokes, help some pups in need. It'll feel great, we promise.
