Republican State Senator Marty Golden, who represents several neighborhoods in southern and southeastern Brooklyn, is known for always being on the wrong side of history. But earlier this week he voted to pass Governor Cuomo's tough new gun laws despite pressure from his base. The heads of the two local warring Young Republican Clubs both issued statements condemning the vote, Brooklyn Daily
reports, saying Golden had now made us all more vulnerable to criminals. You could almost call it a profile in courage! For one of the most craven, regressive and despicable politicians in Brooklyn! Here's a rundown of some of Golden's worst policies.
GunsIn his recent reelection bid, Golden was not supported by New Yorkers Against Gun Violence—most likely for his A rating from the NRA. In 2010, Golden infamously
walked out of the senate chamber to take a phone call right before a tough vote came up on microstamping, which would put unique markers on the spent shell casings from semiautomatic handguns. "Golden also failed to support a bill that would have given judges the power to seize firearms and permits from people involuntarily committed to a mental health institution," according to
a press release by his opponent Andrew Gounardes, "and one that would ban carrying a firearm while drunk." [

GaysIn the spring of 2011, Golden took it upon himself to
lead the anti-gay marriage movement—not just to join it or support it, but to
lead it. "This is plain wrong!" he told a group of supporters. "We’re not going to do this to our children!" Seriously:
read this crazy speech he gave.
