Thanks to Planned Parenthood
, Brooklyn women have access to affordable birth control pills. And for those with health-insurance—luckyyy! But in case you do pay out-of-pocket not to have a baby, the Brian Lehrer Show has mapped responses to a survey of pharmacies
throughout the city, roughly a dozen of which are in Brooklyn, to see who charges what. Here're the cheapest places to buy birth control in Brooklyn, broken down by the most popular brands. (Obviously these data aren't comprehensive, but it can give you a sense of if you're overpaying, and where you might Metrocard it to save money.) [photo
Loestrin 24: Park Slope
Throughout Brooklyn, this generally retails for $90-100, give or take (going as high as almost $150 at the Pathmark on Atlantic Avenue), but it goes for far, far less at the Neergaard on Fifth Avenue—which we recently named the borough's Best Pharmacy
—which charges less than $50.
This generally sells in the $70-80 range, but if you hike up to Greenpoint, you can pay just $55 at SaiVen Pharmacy on Manhattan Avenue. A close second place: the Costco on Third Avenue, which apparently has a pharmacy, charges $63.13.
Most places charge $60-70 for this, but again SaiVen comes through again with a steep discount of $48. Just a block away, Chopin Chemists charges almost twice that!
Ortho Tri Cyclen: Flatbush
1101 Pharmacy in Flatbush ekes past the other respondents to this survey with a price of $105. Otherwise, you can expect to pay $110-160.
Tri-Sprintec: Sunset Park
Costco undercuts Greenpoint's SaiVen by one cent to have the lowest price: $17.99. Everyone else charges $25-60. [photo
Most places want in the ballpark of $100, but SaiVen undercuts Costco by less than $2 with an $85 price tag. I like this SaiVen place!
