Last night, Northside Film kicked off at indieScreen with "This Point In Time," a program of shorts curated by our friends at Rooftop Films. Our photographer Joe Hume was on hand to take portraits of the filmmakers.
And then, at 8pm, The L will present Nothing Yet, an indie-pop comedy directed by a couple of recent NYU grads. I've previously interviewed the filmmakers and am looking forward to continuing the conversation; there will be more of them, and cast members, at this Q&A, attractive and well-dressed young people all, so I'm expecting it will be an excellent opportunity to watch me try to act all "cool." And everyone will receive a copy of the film's soundtrack, featuring Julian Lynch, Real Estate and more (see the interview for the whole track list).
And the movie's only 78 minutes long, so you'll have plenty of time to head over to UnionDocs to catch the second of two screenings of the legendary DIY film Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation, with the filmmakers—who spent their entire adolescence shooting a scene-for-scene home video remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark—also on hand to answer some questions.
There's more Q&As and giveaways the rest of the weekend:
So you have a sense of what you're in for, we've assembled a playlist of the previews of many of the features screening at indieScreen and UnionDocs during Northside Film's special presentations and DIY Film Festival: Myth of the American Sleepover, Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation, Echotone, Tabloid, Nothing Yet, PressPausePlay, and Dirty Pictures. Enjoy, and see you there:

We've got some great new additions to our lineup including Asobi Seksu, Oh Land, Wise Blood, Rye Rye, MINKS, The Miracles Club, Yellow Ostrich, The Stuyvesants, along with hundreds more. Check back often, as more bands continue to be added, lose yourself in the copious amounts of talent, and get excited for four days of film, arts, ideas and music!
And we ALSO know that you already know that SiriusXMU, North America's indie rock channel, will be LIVE broadcasting our Guided by Voices and Surfer Blood performances on June 18, plus band interviews and other exciting content straight from The Steve Madden Stage at McCarren Park. This is such a special show, and Sirius XMU wants to broadcast the glory all over the country for people who can't make it to the real thing.
Brooklyn's favorite indie-Balkan folk outfit Beirut plays McCarren in a SOLD OUT show for the Northside Festival on Friday, June 17, but tickets are still available to Guided By Voices on Saturday, June 18th, with support from Wavves, Surfer Blood and The Babies. Tickets are on sale here.
See you in two weeks!
Northside Festival is in less than a week and badges are flying off the shelves. Yes, shelves! Both badges and wristbands give you special access to shows and deals throughout Williamsburg and Greenpoint from June 16-19. You may not have bought your badge, but we don't hate you. Yet. But if you have, you can pick your badge up at Northside Festival Headquarters at 240 N 12th Street (between Union and Driggs) starting at noon on Thursday, June 16th.
Badge pickup hours are: Thursday noon-10pm, Friday noon-10pm, Saturday noon-8pm and Sunday noon - 5pm.
Every venue has a certain percentage of capacity reserved for badgeholders and wristband wearers, so we recommend that you get to the shows you want to see as early as possible to give yourself the best chance of getting in. And hey, if you don't make it, there's probably 25 other amazing shows going on in a five foot radius from where you're standing.
And you know your badge/wristband gets you way more than just music, right? There's a hefty list of great additional perks your badge/wristband will get you all over Williamsburg and Greenpoint -- read more after the break!
