Film John Ford's The Iron Horse

The Iron Horse is a Western epic about the building of the transcontinental railroad in the decades following the Civil War, the act which more than any other consolidated the American nation, and emblematized the integration of the Wild Frontier into the country's social fabric. A two-hour plus silent film, it's the first major film directed by John Ford, the director who, more than any other took as his subject, with his breathtaking, wild Monument Valley vistas and carefully blocked domestic spaces, the integration of the Wild Frontier into the country's social fabric.
A recently completed restoration of The Iron Horse had been scheduled to premiere at the New York Film Festival; for various reasons, it was pushed back until today. It's showing at 2pm and 7pm at the Walter Reade Theater; tickets are still available for both screenings.
