This was the first time I've really tried to do an emoticon. I had to crane my neck sideways to make sure it looked like tears. I don't know if I really see it. Anyway.

  • Public Enemy is playing at Warsaw, which could I suppose be the occasion for me to make a cheap joke about like, Greenpoint tasting the flavor of love or whatever, but the fact remains that if we had simply gone ahead and voted the D/Flav ticket into the White House in 1988, our country would not be facing many of the problems it faces today.
  • The KGB Bar is hosting a night of readings from the Best Lesbian Erotica 2008 anthology; it should be a fun chance to go and watch everybody in the audience decide whether to giggle or leer or remain expressionless or what because who knows how to act during a public erotica reading anyway? It's wrong to bring sex out into the open like that, wrong and dirty, dirty dirty dirty. Bad.
  • BAM's rep program is about to go on its winter hiatus; their last screening of the year is tonight. It's the late, great Antonioni's late, great The Passenger, an anti-thriller that's less about its trans-Europe intrigue milieu than it is about identity drift and the movement toward the void — when the movie at last arrives there, it does so in one of the most exhilarating scenes Antonioni ever shot.
