This Weekend, Like Your Life, Will Be Over Before You Know It

Movies

Animation Block Party is tonight through Sunday, via Rooftop Films tonight and BAM on Saturday and Sunday; there'll be local shorts and afterparties at local watering holes, featuring free beer for ticketholders. (If I was Edith I would probably write a silly made-up conversation about free beer here, but I am not; I can't interweave telling demographic data into invented drunken conversations nearly as well.)

And, on Friday and Saturday nights at midnight starting tonight and continuing on for a while, the IFC Center's midnight movie series features "Rock, Rebellion and Hollywood Hippies" in vintage slices of drive-in-era SoCal youth panic and counterculturesploitation flicks. Including, tonight and tomorrow night, Wild in the Streets.

Music That Is Free and Outdoors

On Saturday, the stripped-down, smutty synthpop-in-capes of Ghostland Observatory (with Bands You Need to Hear '07 Bear Hands and The Jealous Girlfriends) at the Prospect Park Bandshell. On Sunday, one of the bigger McCarren Park Pool Parties of the summer, featuring MGMT, who I gather are quite popular with the kids.

Music That Is Neither Free Nor Outdoors But Is At Terminal 5 and is Quite Good

On Saturday night, She and Him are adorable. On Sunday night, Spiritualized are, well, spiritualized.

Ok, I wanna go home, with a book in each hand. See you Monday.
