Hey, happy almost East Village Nostalgia day, everyone. Tomorrow night into the wee small hours of Thursday morning marks the 20th anniversary of the Tompkins Square Park Riot, the epochal East Village (culture) clash between squatters and Ed Koch's NYPD. The Lower East Side's unofficial videographer Clayton Patterson is (along with Paul Garrin) one of the major sources of documentation of the events; he's also the man behind the comprehensive Captured: A Film and Video History of the Lower East Side. Which is now also a movie, screening tonight at Webster Hall, if that's at all appealing to you.

If you can't make it but would still like to sate your first- or second-hand East Village nostalgia, then hey, this. (Which is where the photo comes from.)
