Film / Special Events Tonight's Summerscreen: Blue Velvet

So tonight at Summerscreen, the L's free outdoor film series at the McCarren Park Pool (you know the drill: gates at 5:30pm and music before the movie, which gets going at dusk), is showing Blue Velvet. I'm pretty sure I don't need to give you the hard sell on David Lynch's Morning in America Freudian fever dream — it's been so culturally absorbed that even things like "he put his disease in me" are more likely to play as shouted-along catchphrases than moments of intense psychosexual disturbance. Which is interesting, but suggests to me that this movie will play very well among me and you and our friends tonight.

It's also worth noting, and I don't know if it's ever been addressed: Dennis Hopper wears a wedding ring throughout his performance as Frank Booth. Thoughts?
