Out Now: The L Magazine's Fall Arts Preview

One time, in elementary school, I drew a weeping willow tree that I was very proud of. (Normally I had trouble with the tops of trees but the stringy drooping came quite naturally, and I had just the right color crayon.) It is still on my mother's refrigerator, and for the cover of our Fall Arts Preview Issue I asked our Art Director, Cecilia, if, it being art and all, she would like to put my willow tree on the cover of the magazine. She said thanks but no thanks, we already have a cover ready to go. But anyway, I just wanted you to know that I am eminently qualified to blog about our Fall Arts Preview, featuring more culture than you can shake two sets of visiting parents at.
- So, in fairly straightforward fashion, we run down the cream of this fall's gallery and museum exhibitions, classical and alternative theater, dance, opera and classical music calendars for you.
- Plus: is this city safe for the arts? In an online-only bonus feature, we look at recent clashes between artists and the NYPD. Plus, cabbies talk about the prettiest place in the city and bartenders reveal their favorite museums.
- Elsewhere in the magazine, Mike Dougherty runs down the latest road-weary release from Okkervil River and Benjamin Strong takes on the latest Coen Brothers; a new bar in Red Hook just might unite our divided country; and, finally at long last, Natural Redhead Audrey Ference answers a question about furries, we can all retire now.
