In Fengming: A Chinese Memoir, the documentarian Wang Bang points his camera at the elderly widow He Fengming, who talks, simply talks, for three hours, about her life and trials through Mao's anti-rightist campaigns of the late 50s. It's been compared to Shoah and sounds to me like an ascetic, supersized version of the oral histories tracked down by the great dissident journalist Liao Yiwu. It plays at Anthology this weekend.

(The link, by the way, is to a Reverse Shot review by Andrew Chan, who's been doing some fine, knowledgeable work there lately.)
