Oh, hi there.

Starting today and continuing until next Thursday, Film Forum revives Nick Ray's rarely screened, largely unavailable Bigger Than Life, in which cowed paterfamilias James Mason becomes ragingly addicted to a miracle drug. Writing about the film, the L's Cullen Gallagher suggests: "Bigger Than Life feels closer to a suburban monster movie than to any conventional melodrama from the period." It's an intriguing theses: the 50s terror of nonconformity often manifested itself in the monster movie — Invasion of the Body Snatchers — might find a parallel in a cautionary tale straight outta the suburbs. So let's see.
