Food Art!

No, not like making animals out of food (sadly). More like transforming a gallery into a fully functional bodega. For art. (A repurposing of familiar sights into a context of controlled art? A Potemkin village for reverse-gentrification? Just sort of a cool idea?) Come April, Ryan Watkins-Hughes is doing that, with the Heist Gallery, on Essex Street. In the meantime, bring them non-perishables, to use. (All the unused food will eventually go to food banks, or, as you call them, "The only bank I need anymore.")

Press release, with hot steamy details, after the jump.

Heist Gallery needs your help for an upcoming show. The first week of April, Ryan Watkins-Hughes will be turning Heist into an operational "bodega-style" corner store. In order to do this, we need grocery products to fill the space. That's where you come in. We want your old, forgotten groceries, or any sort of random food stuffs and non-perishables that you'd be willing to donate.

We will be collecting the items over the next few weeks until Sunday, March 29th. Please drop the off at Heist Gallery over the next few weekends, Saturday and Sunday, 12-6pm. Heist will also be open from 9am-5pm Saturday, March 28th and Sunday, March 29 to collect items. All of the items left over after the show will be donated to local food banks and shelters. Please pass this request along to all of your friends. If you have tons of items you'd like to donate and absolutely cannot drop off, we will arrange to pick them up!

Tel: (212) 253-0451. For additional information visit heistgallery.com and shopdropping.net.
