Happy Lincoln and Darwin Day, Everyone

Posted by Mark on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 12:26 PM

February 12, 1809. Both of them, bicentennial men. It's a great day for secular progressives!

In their honor, a pop quiz! Who are these people we are looking at, in what context?

Without cheating(googling)? Second one is a still from John Ford's "Young Mr. Lincoln"? So that would be Henry Fonda? guessing, not sure.

First one looks a bit like Ed Harris, although that's not him, pretty sure. However if Ed Harris played Darwin in this movie, in the next shot he'd be slamming that bottle against the wall, punching the table or something similarly exciting...

The one on the right is indeed Henry Fonda in Ford's Young Mr. Lincoln (screening today at Film Forum along with the rare and excellent 19th century noir The Tall Target!).

So we're halfway there. Come on, people...

Ok do you give up? Evidently you do.

On the left is Paul Bettany, who plays Charles Darwin in the forthcoming biopic 'Creation.'

For reals.
