As the more observant among you may recall, the L's Literary Upstart: The Search for Pocket Fiction is gearing up for its fifth blockbuster year of cheap short fiction and snappy beer.

So, just to keep this whole thing in the forefront of your brain where it belongs (make room for it by forgetting your mother's birthday or something), let's play "What Do We Know?"

Well, we know that Lit Up attempts to showcase, and create an atmosphere of community around, New York's talented unknown writers, mostly by pitting the city's creative underclass against itself in a boozy American Idol-style live reading. We know that it's fun to participate in, or attend.

So let's play "What Else Do We Know?"

We know that the stories come from you, or people like you, and that we'll be accepting them through June 14th, provided you follow the submissions guidelines.

We know the stories will be judged by a panel of local literary luminaries: a live audience and a panel of judges, composed of members of the local literati: the New Yorker‘s Ben Greenman (our Distinguished Spokesjudge), the Hotel St. George Press' Aaron Petrovich, Curtis Brown Literary Agent Katherine Fausset, and The L Magazine's own Adam Bonislawski.

We know that the readings, also featuring our infamous New York City Literary Trivia Interlude ("Where overpriced education meets underpriced alcohol"), will take place on the following dates:

Semifinals:
Thu, April 16, 7pm
Mon, May 18, 7pm
Mon, June 22, 7pm

Finals:
Thu, July 9, 7pm

We know that these readings will take place at the Slipper Room, 167 Orchard Street on the Lower East Side, and that they will be immediately followed by burlesque, For the People.

We know that we expect to see you there. Look for us, we'll be the embarrassing ones yelling at the emcee to "Take off your shirt!"

Literary Upstart: The Search for Pocket Fiction Fever! Catch it! It's practically asymptomatic and certainly not harmful!
