Tonight tonight, 7pm, at the Slipper Room, Literary Upstart, The L Magazine's annual Search for Pocket Fiction, holds the first semifinal reading of this, its fifth annual competition. Our shoes are shined, the elbows of our suit jackets are shiny, and we're reading to drink underpriced alcohol ($1 bottles of Dogfish Head!), listen to four fine short stories selected from the couple hundred we've thus far received, watch as overpriced education meets said underpriced alcohol in New York City Literary Trivia, listen to our panel of discerning literati (author, humorist, librettist, New Yorker editor Ben Greenman; high-powered literary agent Katherine Fausset; the L's own Adam Bonislawski; Hotel St. George Press publisher Aaron Petrovich; the New School writing program's Luis Jaramillo) hold forth on said stories; and maybe, just maybe, heckle our co-workers.

We work for a magazine so that we can hold the kind of awesomely boozy witty literary events we were always hearing about. So join us.
