Green Hero of the Week: The Queens County Farm Museum

Posted by Mark Asch on Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 11:27 AM

Did you know it's possible to go to a county fair — which is, of course, a veritable smorgasbord, orgasbord, orgasbord — within the five boroughs? The lauded Queens County Farm Museum loves you and wants you to be happy, so please do mark your calendar for September 19th and 20th. And in the meantime...

Well, you ought to reserve a spot at their May Day fundraising dinner: it's a five-course locavore feast featuring lamb from Apple Pond, in the Catskills — whose Dick Riseling will give a presentation on renewable energy and farming — local vegetables, prepared by the new Hapa Kitchen supper club, and local wines from upstate. Plus, we're told there'll be a "maypole, garland weaving, a bonfire and more fun pagan-inspired rituals."
