In re: Your Memos to Hollywood feature, from this Sunday's Times

Funny, sharp stuff, guys. But: this whole "Let's condense wide-ranging ideas about moviemaking in America — ideas which we've been addressing obliquely or head-on in many reviews or think-pieces over the last few years — into snappy, inside-sounding semi-joke items" thing... Let me just sound it out and see how it plays, no pressure: When the lead film critics from the Paper of Record eliminate all the deep-sourcing, sober prose and zeitgeist-corralling from their writing, in an effort to emulate the glib, short-cutting, bloggy writing that's eroding their audience — well, do you think it maybe sounds a bit... desperate?

On the other hand, if this was meant as a high-concept death-of-print piece, well, consider us future-shocked!

Clearly, Scott and Dargis read a couple editions of Filmscene and decided to give it their own spin.
