Literary Upstart ("Lit Up"), the L's annual Search for Pocket Fiction competition, invites you to our second semifinal reading, next Monday (the 18th) at 7pm, at The Slipper Room, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. You can RSVP to the Facebook event page linked to above, and command all your friends, even the ones you secretly despise, to do likewise.

If Literary Upstart was on a comically archaic map from the middle ages, it would be marked by the legend "Here be absurdly cheap beer and fine short stories from out of our many submissions, to be judged, humorously, by our famed panel of discerning literati." And there would be a drawing of a serpent.

Luckily there will be no serpents at the Slipper Room on Monday, though there will be trivia.
