c4b4/1242757541-ruined.jpgThe Tony Awards may still be a couple weeks off, but the real drama (pardon the pun) went down last night at Webster Hall, where the 2009 Obie Awards bestowed a fairly massive sweep upon the Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Ruined (at right). The play — which continues its run at New York City Center in Midtown through June 28) — deals with sexism, civil war and exploitation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and swept up an impressive 4 of the 16 Obies given to outstanding Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway shows last night.

Meanwhile, one of The L theater critic Alexis Clements' favorite recent productions, the Foundry Theatre's Telephone, earned Birgit Huppuch an acting award for playing a schizophrenic patient of Carl Jung. Click here for a list of all the lucky winners (and, if past years are any indication, a magic ball look at upcoming Broadway shows).
