Spring dance and theater festivals continue full steam ahead this week, with six major series running through the end of the week. On the strictly theatrical side of things, the Americas Off Broadway festival at Midtown's 59E59 Theaters showcases some of the best regional theater from around the country, continuing this week with three productions about the less than ideal realities behind American mythology. The Theater for Tomorrow festival enters its second week at Long Island City's Chocolate Factory, and you can read The L's Alexis Clements' interview with artistic director David Herskovits here, or see the full schedule of shows here.
More festivals after the jump.
For soliloquy enthusiasts, there's the soloNova arts festival (also previewed by Alexis), which continues through the end of the month with several solo performances every day. The La MaMa Moves! dance festival also goes to the end of the week, closing with the spectacular Cunningham Generations (May 29-31), featuring current members and alumni of the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio (pictured).
breedingground productions' Spring Fever Festival — a mix of theater, dance, visual and performance art — enters its second week with tomorrow night's multimedia-heavy performances Hazel in Descent (7pm) and Brass Ring (8:30pm). Finally, the Festival of Jewish Theater and Ideas (through June 14) continues tonight with Cities of Light, a tour of 1930s cabarets from Berlin and Paris through Warsaw and Tel Aviv.
