In addition to the aforementioned opening of Reef at the Storefront for Art and Architecture (7pm, 97 Kenmare St), Stephen Garmey opens an exhibition of new wooden sculptures — pictured at right — tonight at Viridian Artists (6-8pm, 530 W 25th St, #407), and Tribeca's New York Academy of Art holds a reception for its massive summer show of 123 figurative works in all media and formats (6-8pm, 111 Franklin St).
If openings aren't your thing, P.P.O.W. Gallery is playing host to the, er Hostess Project, an ongoing series of free performances, screenings and readings. Tonight's performances by Nathan Austin, Morgan Packard, Tobias Laukemper and Kelly Warman include poetry, film and a live electronic music performance (free, 6:30pm, 511 W 25th St, #301). For the Brooklyn-bound, BRIC's Rotunda Gallery will be screening the documentary Dear Mr. President — about five Israeli and Palestinian teenage girls taking a road trip across the U.S. (free, 7pm, 33 Clinton St, B'klyn).
