A Play Written in the Stars

Posted by on Thu, Jun 4, 2009 at 11:38 AM

1160/1244129519-nightskyblog.jpgPlaywright Susan Yankowitz recently chatted with The L about her new play Night Sky, which opens tonight at the Baruch Performing Arts Center. It's a little bit like Stephen Hawking's life story mixed with elements of the French Vogue editor Jean-Dominique Bauby's story of hospital bed communication (recently adapted for the screen in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), except with a female lead. Jordan Baker (seen with co-star Lauren Ashley Carter at right) plays a brilliant astronomer, loving mother and wife who's left bed-ridden and incapable of conventional speech after a car crash that nearly kills her. Don't take it from me, though, let Susan Yankowitz explain in her interview. (Night Sky continues through June 20)
