The fourth annual Bushwick Open Studios and Arts Festival opens today in, uh, far East Williamsburg. The three-day art extravaganza is like the ultimate bohemian art fair that you dreamed about the first time you heard that Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol used to hang out in Soho, get high and make art. Well, like those artists Soho died, suffocated by crass commercialism, so here the atmosphere is decidedly less sales-y and personality-driven, favoring the collective spirit, community collaboration and hipster Utopianism. Check out my interview with co-organizers Chloë Bass and Steve Weintraub here and click here to get a load of the free art fest's massive schedule of exhibitions, performances, screenings, events and, yes, mini-golf (remember how much I love artsy mini-golf?).
