Today our friends at Crest Hardware (558 Metropolitan Ave) are throwing a mini festival within the massive festival (that would be Northside, of course) to celebrate the opening of their 8th annual Crest Hardware Art Show. This year's exhibition features over 100 artists filling out a massive 5000 square foot space. Today's Crest Fest is not just a big, day-long opening reception, though, it's also a benefit for Macri Park (you know, that sort of desolate triangle of green at Union and Metropolitan). All proceeds from the day will go to a forthcoming refurb of that public space, so buy some art (or at least some food and drink), the money's going to a worthwhile cause. There will also be live music in the evening, and DJs both on the Crest stage and in their garden out back.
Things get underway at noon and continue throughout the day and into the evening, so don't think you need to see it all in one visit. Also, the exhibition lasts long past the end of Northside, and you'll probably need multiple viewings to process it all, so you can always come back.
