Brooklyn, It Goes Hard

d8c7/1245446955-bhflogo.jpgToday is the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, a free day-long outdoor event organized by Brooklyn Bodega and happening just around the corner from L Mag HQ at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park in Dumbo (Main St at Plymouth St). Things get underway at noon (music starts at 4pm) and continue through 8pm with an afterparty planned for Southpaw (125 5th Ave) at 9pm.

The mainstage show has a pretty ridiculous lineup including Pharoah Monch, DJ Premier, Styles P, dead prez, Smif N Wessun, Grand Puba, J Period and some lesser known but still exciting artists on the second stage (including one of my favorite up-and-comers, Nyle). There's also a photography exhibit at Galapagos Art Space next door, and a bunch of family-friendly activities to keep everybody busy. Click here for full details and a schedule of events.

And at a totally unrelated event, the creator of rap music DJ Kool Herc will be spinning at an exhibition opening at Brooklynite (334 Malcolm X Blvd) in Bed-Stuy at 7pm. Tough call. Really tough call.
