There are only two art parties on the radar tonight, both are in Chelsea and both are guaranteed crowd-pleasers. At X-Initiative (as mentioned earlier) tonight is the opening of the week-long exhibition series No Soul For Sale, which has not-for-profit institutions, artists’ collectives and independent enterprises curating and presenting shows of exciting new work. Tonight, in addition to video games, performance artist Martin Soto Climent will need your help fashioning a sculpture out of 1,000 beer cans, which you'll have to empty for him (aw, shucks, free video games and beer, life is hard). The performance and gaming at X-Initiative (548 W 22nd St) last from 6-9pm.
Not far away, Adam Parker Smith's (work pictured) latest exhibition at Priska C. Juschka Fine Art, A Greek Play with a Main Character Named Oblivious (through July 31), opens tonight. Smith works in a funny, post-pop art, DIY aesthetic that constantly makes reference to mainstream culture, Greek mythology, contemporary politics and art history. Tonight's opening at Priska C. Juschka Fine Art (547 W 27th St, 2nd Fl) lasts from 6-9pm.
