Wilco Play The Tonight Show, Tweedy's Hair is Out of Control

Posted by Mike Conklin on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 10:52 AM

On my way to work this morning, I was sitting quietly, wondering what I might do tonight, when I remembered that Wilco was going to appear on The Tonight Show with Conan. This made me happy, gave me something to look forward to. Then I got to work and realized it actually happened last night. Thanks to the internet (and Stereogum), this isn't as disastrous a turn of events as it once would have been. They did "You Never Know," and it sounded great. Here, watch:

I've been listening to the new record for weeks now, and I like it quite a bit—more than anything they've done since the unimpeachable Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I'll have a lot more to say about it when it's released next week.

But right now, I'd like to get this out of the way: Jeff Tweedy's hair looks ridiculous. I don't know if it's thinning, or if he's teasing it, or both, but it really needs to stop. And as a person who years ago may or may not have purchased a pair of shoes because he saw Tweedy wearing them, I only bring this up because I care.

I just saw him in Chicago on Monday; I was in the second row and had a decent view of his hair. Well, having seen him four times prior, I must say that if anything was unimpeachable, it was his hair: Let's call it a cross between Neil Young, Jared Leto, and Richard Gere (sans gerbil). Quite awesome, just like the man and his music.
