Art on an Island

Posted by on Sat, Jun 27, 2009 at 1:05 PM

bf78/1246121855-plot09pic.jpgThe latest — and biggest — of the summer's major outdoor art installations (along with Roxy Paine on the Met rooftop and Jennifer Stockholder in Madison Square Park) opened yesterday on Governors Island. PLOT09: This World and Nearer Ones is New York's first ever outdoor art quadrennial, and features a slate of international artists' work created specifically to meld with and highlight the unique history and architecture of that picturesque island. PLOT09 just opened yesterday, but The L's Hannah Levine and Nadia Chaudhury got a private tour last week and can tell you all about it (in words and images) right here. And if you can't make it this beautiful weekend, wait a couple weeks for the new Water Taxi Beach to open on Governors Island (on July 11) and make a whole day of it.
