If you read The Conscientious Objector you're already well aware of the dire statistics about bottled water — millions more tons of plastic are manufactured, and, natch, thrown away, so that people can buy something that's actually free — but there is some good news (no, not New York's bottle bill): The Australian town of Bundanoon (soon to be the title of a tragically hip Williamsburg restaurant) has become a bottled water-free town, following a grassroots movement (with support of local businesses) and town meeting.
