NYC Self-Proclaimed "Bicycle Capital of America"

Posted by on Thu, Jul 9, 2009 at 11:44 AM

6369/1247153877-biker.jpg With the last few feet of bike-lane paint hitting the Grand Concourse in the Bronx yesterday, New York now has 200 miles of bike lanes, the most in the country. And while I'm tempted to bitch about the utter disregard most New York drivers have for said lanes, and the terrible lack of police enforcement of the rules, then I'd also have to bitch about the utter disregard so many New York cyclists have for pedestrians, as they operate under the false assumption that a bike lane allows them to ignore the basic rules of the road (dudes, a bike lane on a one-way street does not allow you to travel both ways; I'm looking at you, assholes on Driggs/Berry/Wythe in Williamsburg).

Instead, I will merely say, "Good job everybody, but we have a long way to go."
