In an interview with Billboard, Jay-Z spilled the beans and acknowledged that it was Kanye West who inspired him to write "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" the much blogged-about lead single from his forthcoming The Blueprint 3 album. And I don't know if it was bad reporting or Jay-Z being a bit vague, or maybe me being bad at reading, but it's not exactly clear what he means.
"He actually sparked the idea," Jay-Z told Billboard.com about the single. "When he heard the beat he said, 'Man, this is just so hard! This has to be against everything — no auto-tune, none of that type of stuff!' He didn't know what I was going to do or where I was going to take it, but it was actually his fault."
So, is Jay saying that Kanye's suggestion gave him the idea for the song? Or is he saying that he had already been planning to go the anti-auto-tune route because of how badly Kanye abused it on 808s? And can someone please write a song about how badly Kanye's fucking up his outfit with what appears to be a white Casio G-Shock?
