50 Cent Wants Confirmation He's Obsolete

Posted by Benjamin Sutton on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 1:17 PM

894a/1247787293-jayfifty.jpgRemember how last time around, has-been Queens MC 50 Cent dropped his Curtis album on the same day as Kanye West's Graduation and claimed that if he sold fewer units in the first week he'd stop releasing albums? (I do, I was really excited at the idea.) Well, despite 50's strong opening sales of 691,000, Kanye still outsold him by a quarter million units. Did 50 Cent quit though?

Well, sources claim his next album (titled, perfectly, Before I Self-Destruct) will come out on September 11, so no, no he didn't (surprise, surprise). But wait! That's the day that Jay-Z drops his Blueprint 3 album (you'll recall that Jay's second-best album ever, The Blueprint, dropped on the original September 11). The two (pictured at right, smiling for the cameras) have something of a rocky history, with lukewarm friendliness giving way to lukewarm antagonism and back again. For what it's worth, Jay's rhyme from 1999's "It's Hot" is still the best line the on again-off again feud has produced: "Go against Jigga yo' ass is dense/ I'm about a dollar, what the fuck is 50 Cents?" Maybe 50 will actually self-destruct this time.
