Theater New York Innovative Theater Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for this year's New York Innovative Theater Awards — which are less of an institution than the Obies, but probably a better indicator of true artistry than those or the Tonys — were announced on Monday night. Most of the nominees hail from the (deserving) downtown theaters you'd expect (HERE Arts Center, Manhattan Theatre Source, terraNOVA, etc.), but it's nice to see such strong showings by Park Slope's Gallery Players (with 9 nominations) and the Astoria Performing Arts Center (with 2) tipping the scale ever so slightly away from Lower Manhattan.
