It Is Not Cool to Kill a Dog Just Because of Its Breed

Posted by on Thu, Jul 23, 2009 at 4:51 PM

a29a/1248382098-pit_and_kitten.jpg Bruce is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier who got separated from his people and is now scheduled to be executed by Northern Irish authorities for the crime of being a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, under that country's breed specific legislation (BSL). Obviously, this is a sad case, but the broader question of BSL is a serious one, and though I'd hate to take a page from the NRA, dogs don't hurt people, bad people hurt dogs (who then hurt people). Stigmatizing and criminalizing an entire breed just ain't right. To show your support for Bruce (and your frustration for BSL), head out to Washington Square tonight at 6pm (north end, by the arch) and make a little noise on behalf of the four foots (or five foots). You know what they say, "First they came for the Stafforshire Bull Terriers..."

No word yet on who will play Bruce in the eventual Jim Sheridan biopic (Daniel Day Lewis?)
