Jarvis Cocker Writes Songs for Forgetting Sarah Marshall Spinoff

Posted by Mike Conklin on Wed, Aug 5, 2009 at 10:07 AM

Russel BrandI feel like I've been writing about Jarvis Cocker quite a bit of late. Or maybe I've just been watching this video of him disrupting a Michael Jackson performance at the 1996 BRIT Awards, followed immediately by this video of him in an interview after Jackson's death, talking about how the real tragedy of Jackson's life was that he spent the last 20 years of it making terrible music.

Anyway, more Jarvis news today: Billboard is reporting that he's written three songs that to be performed by Russel Brand's character, the archetypal rock star Alduous Snow, in Get Him to the Greek, a spinoff of last year's incredibly funny and much underrated Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Brand's character was over-sexed, self-absorbed and had perfected a certain kind of sneering, condescending tone. I don't know about you, but I can't think of a songwriter better suited for the job.
