Green Hero of the Week: Truck Farm

0a01/1249511442-truckfarm.jpg(As you can see, we're not exactly the first ones to jump on this. But...) Truck Farm is a farm, in the back of a truck (an '86 Dodge). Lettuce, arugula, broccoli, tomatoes and basil grow over six inches of soil made from recycled styrofoam; the food is apparently quite yummy.

This is a project undertaken by the filmmakers Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis, of Wicked Delicate Productions; they're photographing the truck farm over the course of a summer for a documentary film project. (For $20 you can get a DVD of the film, when it's completed, and a share of the produce.)

They have not, as of yet, announced plans to drive around Appalachia planting seeds in the beds and empty hoods of all the trucks up on blocks in everybody's front yard, but we assume that's coming. They should be able to get at least a 50-minute PBS doc out of that.
