TV HBO, Scorsese to Premier Greatest Show Ever

So yesterday, HBO announced that it picked up eleven episodes of Boardwalk Empire to be premiered in 2010. Normally I wouldn’t care too much, except for the fact that this is going to be the best fucking show ever created by man. First off, Martin Scorsese is executive producer and directed the pilot. Second, Steve Buscemi’s in it. And third, it takes place in Atlantic City in the 1920’s. According to the press release, Buscemi will play Nucky Thompson (which is up there with Don Draper as far as kick-ass names go), a man who’s “equal parts politician and gangster” and runs Atlantic City during prohibition. Clearly this show will have everything I love: Violence, racketeering, bribery, corruption, scandal, extortion, speakeasies, hot swing music, awesome hats and suits, violations of the 18th amendment, and bathtub gin. All of a sudden this is becoming a red letter week for television what with Mad Men getting renewed and now this. Now if only someone could manage to fast track that MTV reboot of Teen Wolf.

In related awesomeness, HBO is also expected to pick up the Todd Haynes-Kate Winslet miniseries based on James M. Cain's Mildred Pierce, which will have everything I love: pretty 30s California period sets and costumes, vintage American cars, lots and lots of chicken dinners with cocktails and possibly the greatest teenage villain ever.

Same old, we know what happens: dude buys Boardwalk and Park Place, builds a few mansions, tears them down and builds two high-rise hotels, effectively owns the city, sister throws a tantrum, then quits the game. The real estate game, I mean.
